Building inclusive futures: WISE initiative’s path to LGBTIQ+ equality in Europe

At the heart of the EPBN Workplace Inclusion for a Sustainable Europe – WISE initiative lies a powerful vision: to create workplaces where every individual, regardless of their identity, feels valued and respected. This initiative was born out of the urgent need to address the inequalities that LGBTIQ+ employees still face across Europe. In a world where diversity should be celebrated, many continue to struggle with exclusion and discrimination.

EPBN – WISE aims to change that by fostering environments where inclusion isn’t just a goal, it’s a reality. Through innovative programs, impactful mentoring, and industry-recognized awards, we are paving the way for a more equitable future. Join us on this journey to ensure that every workplace in Europe becomes a beacon of equality and opportunity.

The EPBN-WISE Mentoring program is designed to provide a positive and supportive environment for LGBTIQ+ individuals across Europe, to develop and strengthen their personal and professional skills. It is a remote program with a few onsite meetings (in Poland and Czechia), where LGBTIQ+ students and professionals will acquire more practical skills, through workshops, peer-to-peer sessions and mentorship sessions.

25 Mentees from across Europe were selected to participate in this program. Through a matchmaking process (carried out onsite in Warsaw, Poland) where our mentees got to discuss and engage with different mentors, our mentees were assigned a mentor based on their preferences (both from the mentees and mentors). The majority of our mentors are also very much connected with the EPBN – WISE project, given that most of the mentors are EPBN – WISE Role Models.

Our mentees also participated in a series of workshops and engaged with LGBTIQ+advocates. Notably, they had sessions with representatives from diverse backgrounds and institutions, including: the OECD, Open For Business, Orange and more! They also engaged directly with different EPBN-member organizations, to learn more about the advocacy and work carried out by them.

Stay tuned as we continue to roll out all initiatives, driving forward our mission to create inclusive and supportive workplaces across Europe. More information about WISE.
